Entertainment On Board Marco Polo
Cruise & Maritime Voyages' Marco Polo offers a variety of entertainment throughout the day and evening in various venues across the ship. On a recent trip, Cruises from South Wales' Mandy takes us through her opinion of the entertainment on board.
Daytime Entertainment
Entertainment during the day varies greatly. Typical daytime entertainment activities include: fitness programmes, quizzes, bean bag bowls and shuffle-board (known on-board as Jakkolo). On cruises of five days or more you can expect additional activities such as guest speakers who will share their knowledge and enthusiasm on a variety of topics. Or why not try out Marco Polo's card room and challenge a fellow passenger to a game?
Arts and Crafts
Not only this, but depending on your itinerary, there’s also the opportunity to take part in the on board arts & crafts programme, which may include crafts such as millinery, bead jewellery and mosaic decoration. Failing that, if you enjoy playing bridge, chess, backgammon or similar; the librarian can put you in touch with other like-minded passengers, allowing you to make the most of your time on-board.
Single Traveller Entertainment
Travelling alone? No problem, the Marco Polo has many opportunities to meet fellow solo travellers including meeting for a swift half at the solo cocktail party at Scott's Bar; usually on the first night of your cruise.
Pre-dinner drinks can be enjoyed in the comfort of the Captain's Club lounge, relaxing to the accompaniment of the excellent violinist and pianist playing classical music.
Evening Entertainment
Show Lounge
Every evening you can catch the main showcase in the ship’s Show Lounge. There are two performances each night which conveniently coincide with your dining time. In my opinion the entertainment wasn’t what I was expecting and lacked the ‘wow’ factor, I am however, basing this on a mini cruise and sometimes the entertainment can differ from mini to full-length cruise as often different entertainers will arrive and leave.
Guest Performances
During longer cruises, there are also guest performers and comedians to delight and entertain you. The main show lounge is a stunning environment, and has a traditional theatre feel, with comfortable seating and good views all round.
Quizzes
Later in the evening, there’s often a quiz with a variety of themes, such as; ‘name that tune’ in the Captains Club. This is then followed by a cabaret and music across the ages sure to get you up and dancing until the early hours of the morning!
Or if you'd prefer, why not relax in the comfort of the Palm Garden as you sail into the sunset?
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Marco Polo’s entertainment has something to suit every taste. While sometimes performances can be hit and miss, especially if you’re on a mini cruise, all-in-all the Marco Polo has a wide range of activities to get involved in. I’d definitely recommend a chilled quiz night after dancing the night away the night before.
